Appointment Slot

A specific block of time available for a client to book an appointment with a service provider.

Definition

An appointment slot is a discrete, bookable time window within a provider's schedule. Each slot has a start time, duration, and is associated with a specific service type and provider. Slots are generated based on the provider's availability settings, existing calendar events, buffer times, and booking rules. When a client views a booking page, they see available slots, the times not already occupied by other appointments, blocked time, or buffer periods. Slot configuration (duration, spacing, concurrent limits) directly impacts both client convenience and provider efficiency.

Appointment Slot

9:00am, 9:30am, 10:00am slots for 30-minute consultations

10:00am and 2:00pm slots for 3-hour photography sessions

15-minute increment slots throughout the day for quick health screenings

Custom slots at 9:00am, 11:30am, and 3:00pm based on provider preference

Why Appointment Slot Matters

Slot configuration affects utilization, client satisfaction, and revenue. Too few slots limits bookings; too many creates scheduling chaos. The right slot duration and spacing maximizes revenue while maintaining service quality. Showing real-time availability (only open slots) prevents double-bookings and eliminates back-and-forth.
